PPL(H)

The first and most popular license for which we train at „ATO Horizon Air Services" is the tourist helicopter pilot's license called PPL(H) for short. It entitles you to pilot a helicopter during the day and also to take passengers on a non-commercial flight. The minimum age of a candidate at the start of the training organized by our school is 16+. An additional requirement is to have an aero-medical examination, which takes our candidates one day to do and is not much different from an occupational medicine examination.

The first stage of the course is a theoretical course occupying 100 hours. During this course we teach candidates the theory of 9 subjects necessary to understand min. helicopter construction, meteorology, aviation law navigation, principles of flight and communication. The second stage is the implementation of practical training on a Robinson R44 helicopter, which amounts to a minimum of 45 hours of flight with an instructor and partially on your own.

After completing all the required elements of training, the candidate may take the theoretical exam for the PPL(H) license, which is organized by the Civil Aviation Office in Warsaw. Such an exam consists of two theoretical and practical parts. As part of the first, the examinee must pass an examination of nine subjects in the form of a test on a computer before the Aviation Examination Commission. Getting a positive result from this part of the exam entitles the candidate to take the practical part, which is carried out during a flight at our center in front of an examiner from the Civil Aviation Authority in Warsaw. Passing this exam positively results in the issuance of a PPL(H) helicopter tourist pilot license.
